The Northern Ireland Policing Board (the Board) has published the results of the Community Policing Survey 2024.
This survey assists in monitoring delivery of measure 3.1.3: assess and evaluate the impact of partnership working with local communities from the Policing Plan 2020-2025. The Policing Board undertook this research on the experience of individuals in their community, working with the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
The three most frequently cited concerns remained the same from the Community Policing Survey 2023: anti-social behaviour (17%), drugs (including use, addition and dealing) (16%) and traffic issues (14%).
Respondents were also asked if they had been in contact with local police in the previous year, with the majority (37%) saying they had done so to report a crime, highlighting the importance of these kinds of interactions. Two thirds of respondents had also seen a police presence in their area during this time period.
A quarter of respondents were directly involved with PSNI in seeking resolution to community issues, and of those, a quarter thought community involvement had increased.
