HMICFRS Report Published

Speaking about the HMICFRS Report on the Effectiveness and Efficiency of the PSNI, Policing Board Chair Mukesh Sharma MBE DL said:

“This independent professional policing assessment sets out how the PSNI is performing and discharging its responsibilities in a number of key areas, details the realities of year-on-year reductions to policing resources, as well as the capacity challenges for the service to meet day-to-day policing demands.

Despite pressures faced, it is welcome that recognition is given to the dedication and commitment of officers and staff but also highlights the urgent need for adequate health and welfare support, particularly given the challenging nature of some work areas.

Whilst steps are now being taken to rebuild officer and staff levels, this report reinforces the importance of investment in policing. There are areas within the report where urgent action is now needed and the Board will discuss these with the Chief Constable.”
