At the meeting of the Policing Board’s Performance Committee, Members discussed a detailed response received from the Chief Constable regarding actions being taken by the PSNI to address recommendations made in the national report The Police response to stalking - Report on the super complaint by the Suzy Lamplugh Trust on behalf of the National Stalking Consortium’

Policing Board Chair Mukesh Sharma MBE DL said:

With the introduction of the Protection from Stalking Act to Northern Ireland in April 2022, Members agreed it is important to make sure that police officers here fully understand the powers available, and that any lessons learned as a result of this recently published national report are actioned.

As a Board we welcome that the Chief Constable has outlined a range of steps and measures that will be in place by 27 March in response to recommendations from this national report.

Criminalising stalking through the legislation introduced by the Department of Justice in 2022 is another important tool in tackling Violence Against Women and Girls, and the Board will be following up on this issue with the Chief Constable at the March Board meeting.”
