The Police (NI) Act 2000 Section 35 (1) and (2) provides the legislative power for the Board to appoint senior officers to the ranks of Assistant Chief Constable (ACC), Deputy Chief Constable and Chief Constable as well as civilian chief officer equivalents.
This is an important statutory function and the Board has published detailed guidance which outlines eligibility and legal requirements, the principles of appointment, responsibilities, the appointment process and other associated issues. The processes and procedures outlined in the Board’s Guidance for Appointment of Chief Officers and Senior Police Staff Equivalents encapsulates excellence in recruitment practice and associated employment legislation.
