Following today’s final Policing Board meetings with Chief Constable Sir George Hamilton QPM, Chair Anne Connolly paid tribute to his service to policing:
“I wish to formally place on record the Policing Board’s thanks to Sir George Hamilton QPM for his service to policing throughout his career and for his dedicated leadership of the Police Service of Northern Ireland over the last 5 years.
His tenure has focused on improving the service to the community through embedding the ethos of policing with the community and to keeping people safe. He was a strong believer in the need for stronger partnership between policing and the public sector, and using resources much more effectively to deal with vulnerability in our community.
As Chief Constable, he has been a strong advocate for the civic oversight of policing and its importance in confidence building in the service.
As a Board we wish him, and his family, well as he retires from the PSNI on 30 June 2019.”
