New Chief Operating Officer for the Police Service of Northern Ireland

Doug-Garret-Board-Chair

The Northern Ireland Policing Board has moved forward on the appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) with the advertisement of the position.

Speaking about the role, Board Chair Doug Garrett said:

“The Policing Board is looking for an exceptional and outstanding individual to take on this newly created Service Executive Team (SET) role.  Reporting directly to the Chief Constable, the Chief Operating Officer is a new senior position for policing with responsibility for driving forward strategic change, business modernisation and bringing focus to value for money in the use of resources across the PSNI.

In shaping the future of the police service, the Board recognised that it is vital to develop a strong, resilient and cohesive leadership team that is able to deliver excellence in all aspects of policing.  Bringing together shared skills, expertise and professional capability is essential and the Chief Operating Officer will be pivotal to achieving this alongside a number of other new positions being created following a review of the SET structure in 2019.

Bringing a strong business acumen to the role, the Chief Operating Officer will lead and develop a new team of Executive Directors with responsibility for Corporate Services; People and Organisational Development and Transformation.  The successful candidate will have a track record of successful strategic leadership and delivering large scale complex change within challenging financial circumstances and be able to apply this into a policing environment.”

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Monday 30 November 2020.
