The Office of the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland (OPONI) was established under the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 1998 and provides an independent and impartial police complaints system. The Board meets regularly with the Police Ombudsman and senior officials to discuss a range of issues including trends and patterns in complaints against police officers and the resolution of those complaints, and individual investigation reports produced by OPONI. Further information in relation to the work of OPONI is available through the OPONI website https://policeombudsman.org/
