What efforts are being made to reduce the number of temporary promotions; to make permanent promotions awarded in the last 5 years and to begin a campaign of proper succession planning in the PSNI?
Answer
A Promotion schedule for 2024/25 based on resource forecasting, has been communicated within the Service Executive Team and will address the current reliance on temporary promotions.
Longer term, the organisational review on temporary promotions, will link into career development and talent management to provide personal guidance to individuals, independent from the line management structure, to create awareness/access to other roles.
This will promote lateral and promotion based career development pathways across the organisation and a holistic approach to identifying and growing talent to fill leadership and critical organisational posts in the future.
