Following the condemnation statement issued by the Board Chair, at today’s Policing Board’s Resources Committee Meeting Members also recorded their revulsion at the attempted murder of a member of police staff who is also a part time officer.

Resources Committee Chair Gerry Kelly MLA said:

“Members wished to record their abhorrence at the attack on this mother and her family, and welcome the strong messages of support and condemnation voiced across the community and from all political parties.

Today’s Committee discussions focused on the new PSNI People Strategy and plans to move forward with a range of recruitment competitions for officers and staff.  Committee Members are resolved in their commitment to continue in outreach and engagement work with the PSNI to make sure the policing service is representative of the community it serves.

Those who wish to use the threat of violence against those who want to make a positive contribution through a career in policing cannot be allowed to succeed.”
